Announcements MORE CHANGES!In response to widespread criticism, the government agency that writes the regulations regarding school meals, the USDA, has lifted the restrictions on the maximum servings of grains, and proteins, we are allowed to serve in a week. The maximum and minimum allowable calories, and the requirement to serve each child at least one portion of vegetables or fruit with each meal remains the same. This lifting of restrictions HAS BEEN EXTENDED THROUGH NEXT SCHOOL YEAR. EXTENDING THIS PERMAMENTLY is under consideration. Public comment is welcome, and encouraged. Locally that means that we will be able to do things like offer a slice of cheese with a hamburger, or use a whole wrap instead of 3/4 of one. We will no longer be forced to have one day a week when we only serve 1 ounce of grain/bread to the K-8 graders. At the High School, all the sandwiches and wraps will be available as complete meals instead of just being offered as alacarte selections. At Primrose and SIS, the Bagel Lunch will return. That may not sound like a good thing, but for the child who just doesn't like anything, they are a great fall back. They contain a bagel, vegetables, cheese sticks, and dried fruit, or raisins. They come with milk and access to all the fruits and vegetables offered with the other meals. Again, all calorie minimums and maximums, as well as all nutrient requirements remain in effect. We just have more flexibility in how we achieve those numbers.
